Internship - KP Scholars Undergraduate - Convenient Care

NOTE:  This position is only open to recipients of a Kaiser Permanente Health Care Career Scholarship who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program pursuing pre-medical studies to become a physician.


Northwest Permanente, P.C. (NWP) is a self-governed, physician led, multi-specialty group of over 1,500 physicians, surgeons, and clinicians, caring for over 600,000 members in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We invite you to apply for our 2019 summer internship program. We have a full-time internship available beginning June 17, 2019 in our Convenient Care Department. This temporary internship position is scheduled for 10 weeks and is not to exceed 6 months. Undergraduate level internship work may include less involved research projects and documentation; phone communication, meeting minute transcriptions; Power Point production; social media maintenance; document and template updates; marketing material production; website updates.



  • Urgent Care/KPNOW Clinical Guidelines
    • Gather, document and organize all Urgent Care provider clinical guidelines, determine best method for organizing them electronically aligned to KP best practice, and work with KPNOW and Urgent Care leadership to ensure alignment, utilization, and communciation across both teams
  • Regional On Demand Video Visit Program
    • Develop the Programmatic documentation and operational implementation plans to transition from Urgent Care On Demand to Regional On Demand as part of Urgent Care Expansion plans
    • Provide project coordination support to Practice Director and Physician lead through activities such as collecting processes, documentation of agreements, capturing meeting minutes/ decisions, creating process flows/ diagrams.
  • Urgent Care Expansion Phase 2 & 3 Support
    • Provide project coordination to support Practice Director and Chief/ Assistant Chief/ PIC's (Physician in Charge) in preparing for and delivering on Phase 2 & 3 of the Urgent Care expansion of hours.
  • SMC Campus Transport
    • Provide project coordination support to Project leads through activities such as collecting current work processes, documentation of agreements, capturing meeting minutes/ decisions, creating process flows/ diagrams. 
  • Develop Urgent Care quality project proposals, working with Chief and Assistant Chief, so available for submission in later half of 2019 and 2020. Initial ideas include POC ultrasound, Lactate testing for Sepsis. Work will include things like data analysis, proposal development, research and interviews within and external to the organization.
  • Telehealth Research
    • Complete a health care industry scan of published studies on telehealth/ telemedicine, specifically focused on quality, care experience, and physician/ provider training.
    • Produce a summary of analysis with links to all studies.
  • Other Primary Care / Convenient Care project support
  • Other potential project work as needed


  • High school diploma/G.E.D.
  • Received a Kaiser Permanente Health Care Career Scholarship
  • A student currently enrolled in a collegiate academic program

PAY RATE:  $19.23/hr


All external hires are required to pass a pre-employment background screen.
